FORECAST SNOWFALL AMOUNTS
Let’s
forecast SNOW AMOUNTS.
We will select a city for which to make the forecast. (You can select any city you wish). I am going to pick N.Y.C. in New York State.
Here
is how it is done.
COPY THIS AND HANG IT ON THE WALL OR PUT IT IN A NOTEBOOK!
First,
click on this: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mdl/synop/mrfmosmap.php
Next
select the state for which you want to forecast. (I selected N.Y.S.) Click
on the state.
Next an alphabetical list of cities appears. Select the one you would like. (I am going to select NYC).

You
can decode this yourself, but look at the last line down on the left side of
the chart. That indicates the amount of
snowfall expected for the day. The SNOWFALL AMOUNTS are given for the next
several days in 12-hour increments. (24
hour forecasts, 36 hour forecasts, 48 hour forecasts etc.).
This
is how it is decoded:
0=
No Snow or a trace expected
1=
a trace to up to 2 inches
2=
two to four inches
4=
four to six inches
6=
six to eight inches
8=
more than eight inches.
